Blackberry Features You May Have Forgotten or Never Discovered

One of my most frequently used features on the blackberry is the ability to edit and program specific profiles and notifications. Not only do I know exactly what type of message I am receiving but also the importance of it. I have specific notifications for each of my types of messages such as bbm, txt, email, facebook, myspace, ebay etc but I also have specific notifications for messages from my girlfriend, my coworkers, my family, my friends, and others. This way I can reduce the number of times a day I am grabbing for my blackberry. If a facebook notification goes off I know it's not that important and i'll leave it to check when I get another message if I'm busy. If I get a BBM i know it's important and I'm on it right away. Sometimes people will constantly be txting me about a party or some show or something that isn't urgent to me and I will start to ignore my Blackberry, but then if my girlfriend txts and I don't reply she'll get frustrated and have to call the house phone, so that's why I discovered the ability to set specific notifications here's how you do it.

First go to your home screen and select PROFILES

Next scroll down to SET CONTACT ALERTS

Press ADD CONTACT ALERT

Press MENU (BB Button) then ADD NAME

Here you will have the option to set PHONE and MESSAGES, you can select which notification you would like to use, the volume, holster settings, LED and vibration.

My favorite feature and one of the main reasons I am a hardcore berry user is CONTENT PROTECTION or ENCRYPTION. With the touch of a single button you can render your Blackberry a paperweight to everyone but yourself. When you select password lock your device information will be 100% secure, nobody can extract any information from your device even if they hook it up to a computer they will need to enter your password even to install new information after a device wipe, so basically as i said it would be no more than a paperweight without your password.

Here's how to turn it on

First go to OPTIONS and select SECURITY OPTIONS

Next select ENCRYPTION

Now ENABLE ENCRYPTION on your selected media storage

Next select which type of password/key combination you would like to use.

Now if you press the password lock button you will see a small black unlocked lock icon, this will eventually turn gold which means your device is encrypted 100%
